Dysport
Dysport in Scottsdale, AZ
Dysport treatment offers a non-surgical solution for patients who are bothered by fine lines and wrinkles, one of the earliest signs of aging. At Clear Dermatology, we specialize in non-surgical aesthetic and medical treatments to improve patients’ confidence and overall health.
What is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved neuromodulator or botulinum toxin injectable. Botulinum toxin type A is a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes the muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles formed by repeated facial expressions like squinting or smiling. Dysport is unique, compared to other botulinum toxin injectables, because it spreads easier, making it a great option for large treatment areas like the forehead. It also tends to take effect earlier than other neuromodulators.
Aesthetic Applications
Dysport is most commonly used to treat the following types of fine lines and wrinkles:
- Moderate to severe frown lines
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Prominent vertical neck bands

Medical Applications
Dysport treatments can also be used to treat neuromuscular disorders, like:
- Muscle stiffness caused by upper and lower limb spasticity
- Neck pain caused by cervical dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions in the neck)
- Involuntary eyelid twitching caused by overactive muscles
The Dysport Procedure
Dysport injections take less than 30 minutes and are relatively painless. A topical anesthetic can be applied at the start of your treatment if desired, but most patients find this treatment tolerable without it. A series of injections will be made in the desired treatment area(s) using a very fine needle for precise placement of the Dysport.
After Dysport treatment, patients can immediately return to work and most daily activities but strenuous activity should be avoided for one to two days. It is also important to not put pressure on the injection sites and avoid massage in that area for 72 hours. Mild needle marks on the injection sites can occur but will improve within a day or two.
Dysport Results and Longevity
Patients will start to see the results of their Dysport treatment after 2-4 days but it can take 10-14 days for final results to develop. This is because the botulinum toxin formula takes time to relax the muscles, and the relaxation can be gradual in some patients. Patients can expect smoother, wrinkle-free skin and a more youthful appearance with results lasting an average of 3-4 months. Regular treatments can be scheduled to maintain and even improve your results.

frequently asked questions
What is Dysport and how does it work for wrinkle treatment?
Dysport is a popular injectable treatment derived from botulinum toxin type A, used to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles created by muscle movement). It works by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, preventing muscle contractions that cause wrinkles, resulting in smoother skin.
How long do Dysport injections last and when will I see results?
Dysport injections typically last for about three to four months, with some patients experiencing effects for up to five months. Most people begin to see results within two to fourteen days after treatment, with full effects visible within two weeks.
What are the potential side effects of Dysport injections?
Common side effects of Dysport include headache, pain at the injection site, and mild inflammation. More severe side effects can include eyelid drooping, muscle weakness, and allergic reactions. These side effects are rare. It's important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to discuss potential risks.
Who is a good candidate for Dysport treatment?
Ideal candidates for Dysport are adults who want to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines. Candidates should be in good general health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the treatment.
How does Dysport compare to Botox for wrinkle reduction?
While both Dysport and Botox are derived from botulinum toxin type A and serve similar purposes, Dysport has a smaller molecular size, allowing it to spread more evenly across larger areas.
